(Fort Worth, TX)  —  So far, the coronavirus vaccination program in Tarrant County is off to a slow start.

The goal was to give a thousand shots per day to healthcare workers and first responders during the first weekend.  But only about 700 people showed up per day.

The program is still getting started, and the holiday weekend may have blunted the response.  But the smaller-than-expected turnout also may reflect a reluctance by some people to be vaccinated voluntarily.

Experts say widespread willingness to participate will be necessary to end the pandemic.
