(Fort Worth, TX) — American Airlines is giving a warning to its union workers that more furloughs may lie ahead.
The Fort Worth-based carrier received federal bailout money in December. After a bump in holiday traffic, an increase in air travel hasn’t arrived with the coronavirus vaccines, as airline officials had hoped. The 15-billion-dollars in payroll assistance will expire at the end of March, and Congress hasn’t yet extended a third round.
American furloughed 19-thousand of its 133-thousand employees in October, but put them back to work in December.
