(Dallas, TX) — A North Texas congressman is dead following a battle with cancer and coronavirus.
The 67-year-old Arlington Republican Congressman Ron Wright died yesterday at a local hospital. He leaves behind three children and nine grandchildren.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott called the Arlington Republican a principled leader who left behind a great legacy for other Texans. Abbott also asked people to pray for Wright’s family, his wife also has coronavirus.
Texas Representatives Roger Williams and Michael McCaul honored Wright on Monday, calling him a “tireless fighter” who worked to make the country a better place by bringing his values and love of the U.S. to Congress every day.
Wright had been battling lung cancer since 2019 and contracted COVID after coming into contact with someone in Washington, DC. He is the first sitting member of Congress to die of the illness.
