(Fort Worth, TX)  —  The winter weather is causing a spike in reports of carbon monoxide poisoning in North Texas.

The Fort Worth Fire Department says it has responded to more than 80 calls about C-O leaks and poisoning.  Power outages are prompting some families to try to keep warm by running a car inside the garage, or to keep the lights on by running a generator inside the house.

Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth treated more than a dozen kids for C-O poisoning overnight on Monday.  Some of them were as young as five-years-old.
