(Fort Worth, TX) — The U.S. Supreme Court is declining to intervene in a legal battle between the national Episcopal Church and a conservative Fort Worth diocese.

The local diocese broke away in 2008 after the national church started ordaining gays and women to the clergy and performing same-sex marriages.  The diocese wanted to keep their church buildings and property, but the national church claimed ownership.

The U.S. Supreme Court’s decision not to hear the case leaves in place a Texas Supreme Court ruling in favor of the local diocese.
