(Austin, TX) — Governor Greg Abbott is backing a bill to stop the censorship of political content by social media platforms.
The bill, sponsored by Republican Senator Bryan Hughes, would bar companies like Facebook and Twitter from blocking, banning or demonetizing a Texan’s account based on political stance. It would also give users the right to file a claim to restore their account. Abbott said the “handful of billionaires” running tech companies in San Francisco shouldn’t be the “gatekeepers of free speech.”
He called it a “dangerous movement” meant to “silence conservative ideas and religious beliefs.”
