(Fort Worth, TX) — Police in Fort Worth will soon start sending civilians to certain nonviolent calls to do what’s usually police work.

The first nine members of the new Civilian Response Unit graduate today after training for six weeks at the police academy.  Their cars will be marked Civilian Response, but don’t look like police cars.  Instead of uniforms, they’ll wear collared shirts with the city logo.  The civilians will respond to incidents such as abandoned cars, burglaries, credit card fraud, and loose cattle, to fill out paperwork and do basic investigations.
