State Senate Passes Bill For Utilities To Recoup ERCOT Overcharges

(Austin, TX) — A bill to enable electricity providers to recoup huge overcharges for energy is on its way to the state House after passing the Senate.

GOP Senator Bryan Hughes of Mineola filed the bill Monday morning, and the Senate passed it in about four-hours. An independent monitor found that the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, which oversees the state grid, overbilled providers by 16-billion- dollars during last month’s winter storm.

Gov. Greg Abbott declared the matter an emergency legislative item.
