UPDATE:  The suspect, 39 year old Jerry Don Elders has been apprehended.  The officer is expected to be ok.

(Burleson, Tx) – A Burleson police officer is in the hospital after being shot multiple times during a traffic stop early Wednesday.

Burleson Police posted on Twitter that the officer made a traffic stop at 4:15 a.m. on SW Hillside Drive near Burleson High School. The unidentified officer was shot multiple times and was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth for treatment.  The officer’s condition is unknown.

Police say at least 2 people were in the car at the time and fled the scene.  Their car was found a short time later, abandoned and burned.  The search is on for the suspects who remain at large.

Out of an abundance of caution, Joshua ISD Tweeted this morning that Nichols Middle School would be operating on lockdown until the all clear was given.
