(Dallas, Tx) – Former Texas Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst was arrested Tuesday night in Dallas on a charge of domestic violence, according to a press release from the Dallas Police Department.

Police say just before midnight they were called to a hotel on West Mockingbird Lane near Dallas Love Field, about a disturbance.  Officers met with a woman who said she was physically assaulted by a man she knew.  75-year-old David Dewhurst was identified as the suspect and taken into custody.

Dewhurst faces a charge of misdemeanor assault family violence; he has since bonded out of jail.

He served as the Lt Gov under Rick Perry from 2003 to 2015 and lost a bid in 2012 for the US Senate to Ted Cruz.
