(Austin, TX) — Texas residents were told to conserve electricity because of strain on the power grid.
The Electric Reliability Council of Texas, known as ERCOT, made that announcement Tuesday as the demand for power was threatening to outstrip supply. ERCOT said warmer-than-expected temperatures and plants being shut down for maintenance had created a “tight market” for electricity.
The officials said about 25% of Texas generators were offline due to maintenance.
ERCOT ended its conservation request last night as temperatures cooled.
