(Austin, TX)  —  Texans are a step closer to being allowed to carry a handgun without a permit.

The Texas House gave its initial approval on Thursday to a bill to allow what’s known as constitutional carry.  Democrats tried to load the bill with amendments, and used parliamentary maneuvers to try to kill the bill.  Under House Bill 1927, anybody age 21 or over who can legally own a gun can carry a handgun in public.

The 84-56 vote was mostly along party lines.  The bill must be approved three-times in the House before going to the Senate.
