(Dallas, TX) — North Texas restaurants are open for business again, but they’re dealing with a shortage of employees.

Joe Monastero of the Texas Restaurant Association says more than 600,000 of the state’s restaurant employees were either laid off or furloughed when the pandemic was at its worst.  He says the demand for restaurant workers is now greater than the supply, and the restaurant association isn’t sure why.

Monastero says they may have decided to stay on unemployment or may have found work in other industries.
