(Austin, TX) — Texas will stop giving out expanded unemployment benefits next month.

Governor Greg Abbott announced the decision saying the economy is booming and plenty of companies are hiring throughout the state.  Abbott says there are 60% more jobs listed on the Texas Workforce Commission’s job openings website now than there were before coronavirus pandemic-related closures started last year.  He wants to focus on helping Texans get jobs instead of paying them to stay home.

The extra $300 per-week benefits will end June 26th.
