(Weatherford, Tx) – The Red Cross is opening an emergency shelter in Parker County this morning for residents that may be affected by flooding due to the rising water in the Brazos River.

Parker County authorities have issued a voluntary evacuation notice for residents in the Horseshoe Bend area.  The Red Cross says the shelter south of Weatherford at the Spring Creek Baptist Church on Spring Creek Road will open at 10 am.

Monday afternoon, the Brazos River Authority issued a warning to communities downstream after opening a third flood gate at Possum Kingdom Lake.

The flood waters are expected to reach southern Parker County late this morning or early this afternoon.
