(Rhome, TX)  —  A Rhome police officer is wounded and the suspect is on the loose.

Wise County deputies and Rhome police acted on a tip to intercept the suspect as he and a woman rode a motorcycle along Highway 287 on Sunday.  The suspect, identified as 43 year old Royce Edward Wood, was wanted for a local home invasion robbery on Saturday.

When Rhome officers attempted a traffic stop, Wood ran away on foot.  He reportedly shot an officer in the lower leg and escaped into the woods.  The wounded officer is expected to recover.  Wood is still being sought.

The DPS issued a Blue Alert for Wood who’s described as a white male 6ft 2in tall, 200lbs, bald with a beard.  He was last seen wearing a baseball cap with camo bandana, green shirt, vest, shorts and black sunglasses.
