(Austin, TX) — The Texas Legislature will start its special session on July 8th.
Governor Greg Abbott made the announcement on Tuesday afternoon. An agenda has not been announced, but is expected to involve the election integrity bill, which House Democrats obstructed by walking off the floor. Republicans want the bill passed in order to prevent voter fraud, while Democrats say it’s voter suppression. Bail reform is also expected to be on the agenda.
The Texas Legislature could also vote on an amended budget, which would restore their own funding, along with other boards.
Abbott removed funding of the legislature last week saying lawmakers who didn’t do their jobs deserved to not be paid.
