(Austin, TX)  —  The Texas Education Agency is reporting significantly lower scores for this year’s STAAR tests.

The T-E-A says proficiency dropped from 2019 in most subjects, with the biggest decline seen in math.  Last week T-E-A Commissioner Mike Morath warned the results would be “problematic,” and put the blame on remote learning. Texas students did not need to pass the test for grade promotion this year, but it was still administered so the state could see the pandemic’s effects on education.

TEA is encouraging parents to go to TexasAssessment.gov to get more information on supporting student academic growth.
