(Austin, TX) — Texas Democrats are in the nation’s capital, having fled the state to prevent a vote on an election integrity bill.
Republicans like Senator Bryan Hughes are pushing back against suggestions that the bill amounts to voter suppression. The state Senate passed the bill on Tuesday night. It outlaws 24-hour voting and reels in voting by mail that was expanded during the pandemic.
But it’s unlikely to get a hearing in the House since Democrats plan to stay away until the special session ends in three weeks.
