(Dallas, TX) — Airlines are dealing with staff shortages even as travel volume returns to pre-pandemic levels, and at a time when coronavirus cases are on the rise again.

American Airlines recently recalled all flight attendants who are on extended voluntary leave.  The Fort Worth-based carrier also plans to hire 800 more flight attendants next year.  Dallas-based Southwest is offering overtime pay to flight attendants.  A pilot shortage prompted both North Texas airlines to cancel or delay dozens of flights in June and July.

As crowds of unvaccinated Americans meet the Delta variant, there may be turbulent skies ahead.
