(Fort Worth, TX) — The new mayor of Fort Worth wants a new name for White Settlement Road.

The street gets its name from the suburb of White Settlement. It runs from downtown Fort Worth to Westworth Village, a town west of the city.  In Tuesday’s city council meeting, Mayor Mattie Parker asked city staff to look into the possibility of renaming the road.  The town got its name in the 1800’s, when it was a white settlement surrounded by seven Indian villages.

In 2005, White Settlement residents voted in a 9-to-1 landslide to keep the name.
