(Grand Prairie, TX) —  The hunt is on for a deadly six-foot-long snake in North Texas.

Grand Prairie police say the highly-venomous West African Banded Cobra was reported missing on Tuesday.  The owner says the snake got out of a home in the 1800 block of Cherry Street after being caged without a lock and was last seen in a residential area southeast of I-30 and Belt Line.  Police say the owner has a permit to have the dangerous animal, however they plan to look into it.  The Cobra has black and beige bands along with the traditional cobra hood.

Anyone who sees the snake should call 911 and not try to catch it as wildlife officials say it is extremely dangerous.

Area hospitals have been alerted about the snake, to have the antivenom ready if needed.
