(Houston, TX)  —  The widow of a Texas State trooper, who’s husband was allegedly gunned down by a repeat offender out on bond, is cheering a new law that changes the rules for setting bail.

Kasey Allen joined a group of Texas state lawmakers Monday who signed the Damon Allen Act into law.  It makes sure that cash bonds are set for violent offenses.  Texas judges must also take a suspect’s criminal past into consideration.

The gunman accused of killing Trooper Allen had a history of violence against law enforcement and was out on bond for other crimes.  Kasey Allen says the legislation shows that Texas supports police.  Allen says her late husband would be proud of the legislation.
