Poll: McConaughey Leads Abbott In Potential Matchup

(Dallas, TX) — A new poll suggests actor Matthew McConaughey would beat incumbent Governor Greg Abbott if the Oscar award-winner ran for Texas governor.

The Dallas Morning News/University of Texas-Tyler poll found 44-percent of those surveyed liked McConaughey compared to 35-percent for the Republican Abbott. Over 20-percent of the eleven-hundred or so registered voters said they’d vote for someone else. McConaughey has floated the possibility of running for office but has not confirmed anything.

The same poll found Abbott would beat Democrat Beto O’Rourke 42-37 if the ex-congressman ran for office with over 20-percent noting they’d vote for someone else.
