(Fort Worth, TX) — A newly redrawn state Senate district in North Texas is drawing a Republican candidate.

State Rep. Phil King of Weatherford announced on Monday he’s running for the GOP-friendlier Senate District 10.  The incumbent is Democratic Sen. Beverly Powell of Burleson, who flipped the seat in the 2018 election.  She’s already calling the proposed new district a deliberate act of discrimination.

The new District 10 would extend beyond Tarrant County into more conservative Johnson and Parker Counties.

King is an attorney and former police officer who’s been in the Texas House since 1999.
