(Dallas, Tx) – Former President George W. Bush is reacting to news of the death of former Secretary of State Colin Powell, who passed away this morning from complications of COVID-19 at the age of 84.
Bush said he and former First Lady Laura Bush were “saddened” by the news, calling Powell a “great public servant.” He said, “many presidents relied on General Powell’s counsel and experience” and he was highly respected at home and abroad.
Powell was a four-star general in the U.S. Army and the first African American U.S. Secretary of State. He served under President Bush from 2001 to 2005.
His family says he was fully vaccinated against the coronavirus. They thanked the medical staff at Walter Reed and said “we have lost a remarkable and loving husband, father, grandfather and a great American.”
