(Washington, DC) — The State of Texas is facing a lawsuit from the Justice Department over the voter reform bill that took effect earlier this year.

The D-O-J claims Senate Bill One violates the Voting Rights Act and the Civil Rights Act. Federal officials say the law prevents voters with disabilities from getting the help they need and will disenfranchise several voting groups.

In response, Governor Abbott said the law is legal, and makes it easier to vote.
