(Lubbock) — Beavers are appearing in a northwest Texas town for the first time in 5,000 years.

A Texas Tech doctoral candidate made the discovery in Lubbock after a 12-year investigation.  Garret Langlois’ research proves that North American beavers have been slowly migrating up the Brazos River for more than a decade.

Fossil records show that beavers lived in this area less than 125,000 years ago.
