(Mineral Wells, Tx) – Firefighters from several departments were called in to battle a major fire at the old Mineral Wells High School throughout the night on Sunday.

According to the Weatherford Democrat a driver on Hubbard Street spotted flames shooting from the upper floors on the east side of the building about 6:30 that evening.  Fire crews stayed on the scene through Monday afternoon putting out hot spots, however the Mineral Wells Fire Chief says the historic building is a complete loss.  No injuries were reported, investigators will now try to determine what caused the blaze, as there was no electricity in the vacant building.

The school first opened in 1915 and was operated as Mineral Wells High School until 1953.  The property is still owned by the school district.
