(Houston, TX) — Police are investigating the discovery of cash and checks stashed in a bathroom wall at a Houston mega-church.
A plumber doing repair work at pastor Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church in November discovered hundreds of envelopes with checks and cash behind a loose toilet. Police believe the money is connected to a massive 2014 theft that totaled around $600,000. The recovered money was inventoried by burglary and theft officers before being left in the custody of the church.
Lakewood Church confirmed the discovery but did not provide additional information. Houston police say the investigation is ongoing.
