(Washington, DC) — The Department of Justice is suing the State of Texas over the redistricting maps passed earlier this year.
The DOJ alleges the maps violate the Voting Rights Act by diluting the votes of minority groups. Federal attorneys say the state showed an “overall disregard” for the population growth over the last decade that was fueled by Latino and Black residents.
Governor Abbott’s office expressed confidence that the maps will be upheld in court.
