(Austin, TX) — A federal judge is being asked to block a new Texas law that bans election officials from sending vote-by-mail applications to voters who haven’t asked for them.
Harris County elections administrator Isabel Longoria claims the law violates her free speech rights and hampers her ability to encourage Houston-area residents to vote. Longoria and Cathy Morgan, a volunteer deputy voter registrar from the Austin area, filed a federal lawsuit against the new law earlier this month.
