(Fort Worth, TX) — One of North Texas’ biggest philanthropists and oil executives has died.
William “Tex” Moncrief Jr. passed away Wednesday at 101-years-old. He was known for running Moncrief Oil for decades after serving in World War Two. Moncrief also donated millions to UT Southwestern Medical Center for cancer research and was put in the Texas Philanthropy Hall of Fame in 2001. He was also a University of Texas regent in the late 80s and early 90s and the Longhorns’ football headquarters is co-named after him.
Funeral arrangements are pending. His son Charles died last January at the age of 71.
