Granbury Two-Year-Old Accidentally Shoots Mom And Sibling

(Granbury, TX) — Police are investigating after a two-year-old accidentally shot and wounded a one-year-old sibling and their 23-year-old mother in a Granbury parking lot.

Officers responded to the reported shooting outside the Walmart on Hwy 377 about 11:30 Wednesday morning.  The children were reportedly inside a car, and their parents were standing outside of the truck, when the toddler found a handgun between the center console and the seat.  Granbury Police say one round was discharged.  The bullet passed through the younger child’s leg, then through the mother’s arm and into her chest.

According to a statement released by the city, the mother was flown to a Fort Worth hospital, the baby was taken to a Fort Worth hospital by ground. The baby’s injury is not believed to be life threatening. The mother’s injury is potentially more serious, but her current condition is unknown.

The father of the children, a 26-year-old Granbury man, was standing at the rear of the truck and was not injured.
