(Dallas, TX) — HEB is touching off speculation with the purchase of a vacant grocery store in south Dallas.

The San Antonio-based grocery chain confirmed it had bought the former Albertson’s on West Wheatland near I-20 but didn’t say anything about opening a location there.  HEB plans to open stores in Frisco and Plano this year, and another in McKinney next year.

So far HEB’s North Texas presence has mostly been in smaller communities, with locations in Burleson, Cleburne, Granbury, Hudson Oaks, Stephenville and Waxahachie.
