(Alvord, Tx) – The Wise County Messenger reported that fire destroyed a home in Alvord early Saturday morning, displacing a local firefighter and their family.

The home on Woody Street was declared a total loss.  The Alvord Fire Department said wind gusts of 30-40mph complicated their efforts to contain the embers that were spreading toward surrounding homes.  Investigators believe the fire likely started from a gas heater in the living room.  The residents, including a member of Alvord’s Fire Department, were able to get out of the home with no injuries.
