(Lake Worth, TX) —  A former Lake Worth police officer is on the receiving end of a federal lawsuit by a Fort Worth man accusing him of excessive force.

Dashcam video released Monday shows then-officer Jonathan Granado running over Dustin Bates with a police SUV at the end of a brief motorcycle chase in 2020.  Bates had an active warrant when he fled from a traffic stop, and it was later learned that he possessed drugs.

Lake Worth Police say the Granado accidentally hit Bates, who was off the motorcycle and running across a field, when the officer tried to stop and his vehicle slid in wet grass.  A Tarrant County grand jury declined to indict the officer on any criminal charges.

Granado left the Lake Worth Police Department last year.
