(Fort Worth, TX) — A steer was sold for a record price at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo, which came to an end this weekend.

‘Steve’ the steer sold for a staggering 310-thousand dollars Sunday after being crowned the 2022 Grand Champion.  The steer was one of 23-hundred entrants in this year’s competition.  The more than 13-hundred-pound steer, raised by Tristan Himes, a 4-H member from Sterling City, was purchased by a group of buyers called the ‘Steering Committee.’  Member Dean Tetirick said if the Fort Worth Zoo can’t take Steve in, the steer will find a new home on his ranch.

More than $6.1 million was raised overall in the auction eclipsing the previous record set in 2020 by $1.4 million.

The LKCM family of stations, 92.1 Hank FM and 95.9 The Ranch participated in the Sale of Champions with the purchase of a 1378-pound short horn steer named Buffalo Bill.  Congratulations go out to Kaitlyn Nix of De Leon, who raised Bill.
