Fast Moving Fires Push Hood County Residents From Homes

(Lipan, Tx) – High winds and dry conditions continue to fuel what has been named the “Big L” fire north of Lipan, straddling the Hood/Erath County line.

Officials say it has consumed approximately 11,000 acres, burned at least 8 structures and as of Monday morning was 20% contained.  One firefighter was treated for burns on the scene. She was taken to a hospital in good condition. No other injuries have been reported.  Late Sunday afternoon, residents of the Lipan area, from the city of Tolar all the way north to Bowden Road, were asked to evacuate.  Road Closures include Tolar Highway at Campbell Road, Star Hollow at Highway 148, Highway 377 at Bluff Dale and Highway 377 at Tolar.

Emergency shelters have been set up in Granbury at the 1st Christian Church, First United Methodist Church, the YMCA and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Fire Departments from Hood, Erath and Parker counties, Hood and Erath County Sherriff’s Departments, Granbury Police, the Texas Forest Service and Department of Public Safety have personnel working to contain the fire and keep residents safe.

Residents are reminded Hood County is currently under a Burn Ban.
