(Dallas, TX) — The Environmental Protection Agency is seeking to list North Texas as a “severe” violator of federal ozone pollution standards.

The agency made the announcement on Wednesday.  The 2008 federal rule requires metropolitan regions to remain below 75 parts per billion of ozone in the air.  The ten-county Dallas-Fort Worth area exceeded the threshold at 76 parts per billion.  The EPA’s designation would result in action from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

Johnson, Parker, Tarrant and Wise Counties are included in that 10 county area.
