Two Property Tax Proposals Are On Statewide Ballot

(Austin, TX) — Two propositions that could affect property taxes will be on the ballot next month.

Rising home prices raise a home’s market value, which leads to a higher tax appraisal even if the homeowner has made no improvements. Prop 1 recalculates school tax rates for disabled and elderly homeowners. Prop 2 raises the homestead exemption for school taxes from $25,000 to $40,000.

Early voting started on Monday for the May 7th statewide election.
