(Palo Pinto, TX) —  Emergency crews are fighting a wildfire at Possum Kingdom Lake in Palo Pinto County.

The fire scorched at least 500 acres and has destroyed 8 lake houses as of Tuesday morning.  The Texas A&M Forest Service brought in resources to try to get control of the fire, which is now at 10% containment.  Local residents were told to evacuate.  Fire crews say drought conditions are making grass and trees especially dry and flammable.

In April of 2011, the Possum Kingdom Complex wildfire burned 166 homes and two churches before it was contained.
