(Austin, TX) — Governor Greg Abbott is making his opposition to red-light traffic cameras part of his re-election campaign platform. Abbott announced Monday that he wants the legislature to pass a state law to ban cities from using the cameras.
The law would also require current red-light cameras to be shut down. Abbott believes the use of the devices unconstitutionally denies due process to suspected violators. Dallas, Fort Worth, and a number of other North Texas cities use the cameras.
