(FORT WORTH, TX) – A Parker County man has been given a one-year suspended sentence and 2 years’ probation for his part in a shootout that left a Fort Worth police officer critically wounded 2 years ago.
Ed McIver Jr. was found guilty of a misdemeanor charge of evading arrest and not guilty on two felony counts of evidence tampering and hindering apprehension in connection with the 2016 shooting of Officer Matt Pearce. Pearce was shot seven times and critically wounded by McIver’s father, Ed Russell McIver Sr., following a traffic stop that led to a high-speed chase. McIver Sr, a wanted felon, was killed in the gun battle. The younger McIver fled the scene but was captured a short time later in a wooded area.
Back in 2016, a grand jury declined to indict the son on a charge of attempted capital murder.
