Cruz Defeats O’Rourke In Narrow Senate Race

(FORT WORTH, TX) — Republican incumbent Ted Cruz is getting another term in the U.S. Senate after a narrow win over Democratic challenger Beto O’Rourke.  President Donald Trump came to Texas to campaign for Cruz, who won his first term in the Senate in 2012.  Interesting to note that Cruz did not carry Tarrant County as expected.

Congressional Races

(Dallas, TX)  —  The Democrats have a congressional pickup in the Dallas area with Colin Allred’s win over longtime GOP incumbent Pete Sessions on Tuesday.  Sessions had represented District 32 since 2002, but the district supported Hillary Clinton in 2016, making it a prime target for Democrats this year.  Allred is a former pro football player whose victory marks the first time a minority candidate has won a non-minority-majority district in Texas.

(Fort Worth, TX) – Longtime Republican Congresswoman Kay Granger of Fort Worth, retained her seat in District 12 with a win over Democratic candidate Vanessa Adia.  However, Granger will likely lose her place as chair of the powerful House Appropriations Committee with Democrats regaining the House.

(Cleburne, TX) – Republican Congressman Roger Williams, whose district 25 runs from Johnson County down to Austin, held on to his seat easily defeating Democratic challenger Julie Oliver.

State Senate

(Fort Worth, TX) – Fort Worth Republican incumbent Konni Burton lost her Senate District 10 seat to Democrat Beverly Powell.

Republican Greg Abbott Wins Second Term In Office

(Undated)  —  Republican Texas Governor Greg Abbott will serve another term in office.  Abbott easily cruised to victory Tuesday night against his Democratic challenger, former Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez.  He consistently led Valdez by double digits from the very beginning in all polls.

Patrick Defeats Collier For Lieutenant Governor

(Austin, TX)  —  Dan Patrick gets another four years as lieutenant governor of Texas.

The Republican incumbent defeated his Democratic challenger, Houston accountant Mike Collier, in Tuesday’s midterm election.  Patrick was first elected to the office in 2014.  As president of the Texas Senate, he points to the legislature supporting border security and reducing business taxes as among his first term’s accomplishments.
