(Arlington, TX) – Arlington voters sent a message to their City Council by passing a proposition to set term limits.

The new ordinance keeps the Mayor and council members from serving more than 3 consecutive 2-year terms.  An Arlington resident got more than 11,000 signatures to get the proposition on the ballot.  Mayor Jeff Williams came out against the measure saying term limits could hurt the economic development of Arlington.  As for the current council, there are 5 incumbents that won’t be able to seek reelection when their terms expire in 2019 and ’20.

Unofficial results show 63-percent approved term limits while 37-percent voted against them.
