(Undated) — So-called porch pirates are spoiling the holidays for online shoppers, especially in three areas of Texas.

The folks at the home security website SafeWise.com list Austin, Houston, and Dallas-Fort Worth among the top ten areas in the country where packages are likely to get stolen.  They say consumers can thwart porch pirates by using package delivery tracking, adding insurance and requiring a signature for delivery, installing security cameras or a doorbell camera, and having packages sent to their office or picking them up in person.

If you’re a victim of package theft, SafeWise advises you to contact the carrier and the retailer, file a report with insurance and the police, and check home video surveillance.
