(Athens, TX)  —  A school district in East Texas is giving students a three-day weekend next year.

Last week, the Athens Independent School District approved a four-day instructional week for the 2019-2020 school year.  During the three-year pilot program, classes will be in session Monday through Thursday.  School officials say each school day will be 50 minutes longer to make sure students don’t lose instructional time.  Friday meals will still be provided for students and there will be extracurricular activities on Fridays for students with the district providing transportation.
