(Granbury, Tx) – Hood County authorities are investigating the shooting death of a 16-year-old boy late Monday afternoon in far southern Hood County.

It happened outside a home near Highway 144 and Mitchell Bend Highway.  According to the Hood County News, a preliminary investigation shows at least two boys were playing with a pistol, and one of the boys accidentally shot himself.  Sheriff Roger Deeds said the boys apparently thought the pistol was unloaded.

The victim’s name was being withheld pending the notification of family.
