(Dallas, TX) — A huge channel catfish that was reeled in on Saturday in a North Texas lake could be headed for the record books.
Josh Garcia of Midland caught the 47-pound fish in Lake Tawakoni while fishing with a local guide service. The previous record of 36-and-a-half pounds was set more than 50 years ago, in 1965, by a fish that was caught in the Pedernales River.
State biologists will check out DNA samples to make sure it’s a channel catfish. After being weighed, sampled, and photographed, the fish was released back into the lake.
